Today, you will learn how to install IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server. You have two methods of getting the installation steps. Just watching the small video below after each section, or read the article below. Ah should I make this video training to be a paid one!!! Should it cost $$$$? Just a thought. As I am not paid to put this online & really its more of a time constrain, I was not able to add voice to these video or re-edit the videos & did not want to drag this tutorial further till I add voice to them. If you want to donate some of your time to do this, I can provide the video source.
Note: unfortunately I did not have the original media of the IBM TSM 5.5 at the time I was writing this tutorial so I have downloaded the installers from the IBM website & put them in a folder called TSM_Images on my E drive.…
OK, I have been kicked right and lefts by the e-mails I got to continue my tutorial. In the next few days I will try to put as much of it out there. I had wrote many of the articles, but I had no time to post them lately being busy with IBM Tivoli FlashCopy Manager.
Today, we will start with the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager installation. I will limit this day short to point out the two different parts of the installation & will post the actual installaiton of each part on Day 4, 5, & 6. Though I will try to upload these 4 Days of my tutorial all at once for you to enjoy it.
Although IBM Tivoli Storage Manager can be installed & used on multiple operating systems & platforms, in our course we will cover windows on Intel X86 only.…

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager is a backup & archive solution, so if you are familiar with backup solutions you will discover that TSM will have to be capable of performing four main functions: backup, restore, archive, and retrive. Although these concepts seem easy to most, many new admins have a hard time distinguishing between backup & archive. As I am trying to cover every one, below you will find a brief of each as being defined by IBM Tivoli Team.
Backup: Creates a copy of a file to protect against the operational loss of destruction of that file. Customers control backups by defining the backup frequency and number of versions.
Restore: Placesbackup copies of files into a customer-designed system or workstation after the loss of a file.…
